Nigerian billionaire and chairman of the Geregu power plant, Mr. Femi Otedola, was today inducted as the chancellor of Augustine University Lagos.
A Catholic university that is located in Otedola’s hometown, Epe, in Lagos State.
During the induction, as the chancellor of the university, an emotionally touched Otedola asked the VC of the school, How many students does the school have?
He was told 750 students.
He nodded his head without uttering any other words.
Later, in his address to the guests gathered inside the hall, he announced a donation of 750 million naira to the 750 students, which is 1 million per student.
The 750 million naira donation is his own way of subsidising the hardship that the students are going through, but most importantly, it was his way of giving back to a society that has given him so much.
The best part of the whole experience was that Otedola’s nonagenarian mom, who clocked 90 years last year, was present at the hall to see his son’s finest glory.
This is the best news that I heard today from one of the students at the university who shared the news with me earlier today.
Things I love to glimpse
