Google has agreed to settle a massive $5 billion lawsuit that accused the embattled tech giant of improperly tracking the personal data of millions of people who used its Chrome browser’s incognito mode, lawyers said Thursday.
Lawyers on both sides signed a binding term sheet during mediation, aiming for final approval from a federal judge in Oakland, Calif., by Feb. 24, 2024.
Financial settlement details remain undisclosed. The plaintiffs, seeking a minimum of $5 billion, claimed Google tracked users’ online activity without their knowledge.
